About the Beekeeper

Beekeeper Colleen Sweeney

Beekeeper Colleen Sweeney produces 100% pure, raw and unfiltered honey products from apiaries located in Big Bear, California.  The hives house carniolan bees from Germany and Siberia and she looks to add Italian or Hawaiian bees to her apiary in the future.

Big Bear Lake Honey is harvested from local pollen including buckwheat, rabbit brush, apricot mallow, sunflower and prickly poppy. Sweeney takes pride in producing honey without corn syrup, GMO products or pesticides. It’s all natural, raw and unfiltered.

Big Bear Lake Honey comes in a variety of sizes, including 6-, 8-, 12- and 16-ounce jars. The product line also includes creamed honey, bee pollen, raw honeycomb as well as honey sticks.

In addition to producing honey, Ms. Sweeney looks to share knowledge about preserving and protecting bees.  “I want people to learn about bees and about how to protect them,” Sweeney says. “There are quite a few things harming the bee population—pesticides, neonicotinoids and mass production of bees. Mass breeding can lead to a major decline in bee population,” Sweeney says.

Information about bee health can be found in the Big Bear Lake Honey Company Bee Blog and on our Facebook page.
